For a nymph, Satan is rather unusual. First off, he's a cis male; most nymphs are either intersex or female. Then theres the whole horns and hooves thing, which is even more rare. Like there's a superstition surrounding it rare. Anyway, to nymphs his existence is practically a curse. Something about "too much like the divine". Satan doesn't really care. It's almost true anyway.
Where those traits came from isn't a curse though - just genetics. A goat shifter father and a inactive gene passed down from some great-grandparent on his mother's side is the root cause. That shit took ages for Satan to fully figure out. Mom's family really didn't want that shit known. Anyway, the shifter trait is essentially inactive, so no cool turning into goats or anything. Just kinda look like one. (From the feet down - those horns are definitely more ram.)
Satan doesn't know why he falls under the category of death god; the stories nor the humans ever speak of him like that. More like Lord of Hell, Personification of Evil, etc. Well, or revolutionary, the original rebel. The latter is what he actually falls into. But - he was born with the wings, and has the same killing power as all the others, so he is a death god by Underworldian standards. Crazy shit.
As Angel's soulbound (his guardian, essentially), Satan can feel his emotions and his physical effects (though lessened). Would be nice if he was able to get more than a few miles away from him without his torso hurting like hell, but he'd be too worried about his baby. poor kid is too emotional for their own good. At least now he has his memory back and isn't forcibly invisble like he was the first few years. Or well, the first several in the latter case.
satan was born under the sort of conflict that kills slowly, a virus which spreads like rot and leaves only waste behind. which is also how he was treated for the first several years of his life. his mother was a nymph helping other nymphs escape slavery in elysien, and his father was a goat shifter who helped hide them. even knowing it was likely with his father's genetics, nymph superstition got the best of his mother when she saw her baby had horns and hooves. and wings. he was too divine - so she gave him up to jasmine, the life goddess (his father disagreed, but could do nothing. not in those days in elysien).
while jasmine was lovely (she never would be anything else), her sister lily was there too. lily could not stand underworlders - still can't. the hatred burns right through her. she never did anything in front of jasmine, but whenever she wasn't around she'd do everything in her power to hurt satan - physically and emotionally. there was nowhere to go - lily held the same queen title as her sister. no one would dare betray her, especially not the nymphs who were around to witness it. satan learned to avoid her - and when he couldn't, lucifer came around to deal with it instead.
jasmine finally found out about it when satan was 14, and planned to send him to some friends she had in the underworld. but lily found out before she could send him off - so as punishment to her sister she cut off his wings and exiled him to the underworld. he was found by a nymph clan, where he met his friend seraphine.
his wings - or what was left of them - never healed though. they remained open, growing infected over the next few months until finally - out of options - the healers of the clan asked the castle for help. so satan went, and ended up staying permanently. it was nice there, and he was more used to living in a castle than anywhere else anyway. besides, lucifer shut up when there weren't as many women around (he was terrifed they were out to get him). lucifer - at one point soon after - split from him into another body after they'd gotten into an argument (mainly over seraphine - lucifer disliked her because she was a girl. satan thought this was dumb). morningstar said later it was probably for the best - and that it was supposed to happen. whatever that means.
satan lived in relative peace after that until recently... when angel was born and suddenly all his time was dedicated to him. particularly after things got bad and they lived on earth for a while. his life has consisted of so much more worrying these days. he didn't even want a kid - but he was the closest to lucifer so it made sense for them to pick him as a soulbound. at least now that they're grown up, he can relax nevermind. his job is forever, apparently.
My love, my darling, light of my life... I adore talking to him. Even when we disagree, he always makes such reasonable arguements. Sometimes I wish his morals weren't so strong, but well.. he wouldn't be Azrael if that were the case.
He's sooo annoying, and also so grumpy for no reason. I don't get it. He huffs.
He appears to be doing alright as far as I can tell, thankfully. I was so worried when he disappeared - that was right before she had Wolv. Don't know why the fates didn't tell me about the soulbound thing. I wish we talked more, but at this point... That would only happen if things had turned out differently. But as long as he's okay, it's fine.
